Huron-Bruce MPP calls on environment minister to phase out Ontario Tire Stewardship

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, Progressive Conservative (PC) critic for environment and Cap-and-Trade, is calling on environment minister Glen Murray to begin the phase-out of Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) in light of numerous allegations of wrong-doing connected with the organization. 

In a letter to the minister, Thompson states that the OTS's former chief financial officer has been investigated by the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada, for suspicious financial transactions, and the findings have been turned over to the Toronto Police Fraud Unit.

Thompson urges Murray to take immediate action to phase out OTS, and emphasizes that the Waste Free Ontario Act, passed in June, gives him authority to make this happen, yet he has done nothing.

"How many more dollars need to be spent needlessly; how many more allegations of wrong-doing do you need, before you take action?" she asks.
