January thaw, rain mean fast-moving water in local rivers

The past week has seen above-zero-Celsius temperatures and rain, melting the drifts of snow that had accumulated since New Year's Eve.

This has also resulted in fast-moving water in the rivers and streams, as they head to Lake Huron. The tributary to the Penetangore River was thundering under the Russell Street bridge, Sunday afternoon, and many fields in the area were flooded.

But this mild weather won't last. Winter is expected to return later in the week, with snow and colder temperatures.
