Huron OPP report two drivers facing charges
IMPAIRED CARE AND CONTROL CHARGE LAID

(GODERICH, ON) – A 48-year-old Goderich man has been charged with Impaired Care and Control, following an incident that took place Jan. 12.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Huron County OPP officers spotted a blue Saab parked in the Livery parking lot, off of South Street in Goderich. Officers noted the vehicle’s engine was running and the headlights were activated. They decided to check on the vehicle to see if it was occupied.

Upon knocking on the driver’s side window, police were able to get the male driver’s attention. While speaking with him, officers detected the odour of alcohol and they noted he was displaying signs that he was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest for being in Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired.

He was transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of his samples registered over the legal limit. 48-year-old Stephen HILLS of Goderich has been charged with Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Care or Control Over-80 Milligrams.

He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 13, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension.

DRIVER FACING HALF-A-DOZEN CHARGES

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A Dungannon resident will be making a trip to court next month, following a traffic stop that resulted in several Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences being laid against him.

Saturday, Jan. 21, a Huron County OPP officer received information about a suspended driver. As a result, police kept observations in the area and shortly after 1 p.m., a Huron OPP officer observed the suspect vehicle, a white Jeep Cherokee, turn off of Lucknow Line onto Hawkins Road. The suspect vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the driver was confirmed to be driving while under suspension.

He was placed under arrest and taken into custody. Upon arrest, the investigating officer searched the vehicle and located cannabis marijuana inside the vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed the driver was operating his vehicle with unauthorized licence plates and no insurance coverage.

As a result, Robert WOODS, 43, of Dungannon has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marijuana), Fail to Comply With Probation Order (2) counts, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, Driving While Under Suspension and Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance.

He was released from custody with a court date scheduled for Feb. 27, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
