Christmas is just 10 days away!

December 15, 2014

It's only 10 days until Christmas, but you wouldn't know it by the weather.

A year ago today (Dec. 15, 2013), Kincardine and area had its first snow day, but it's more like a spring day this year.

However, that's soon going to end as flurries and cold temperatures are set to return later this week.

Meanwhile, people are getting into the festive mood.

Kathy Soloduka of Kincardine and her therapy dog, "Shylah," were at the Community Living of Kincardine and District apartment complex on Saratoga Road, Thursday evening, all dressed up for Christmas and visiting with residents.

Also, Bruce Power and its suppliers continue to make a difference in the community. The company recently donated $100,000 to the United Way of Bruce Grey, with money raised at the annual Supply Chain conference and golf tournament earlier in the year. The employee payroll deduction plan has raised an additional $102,000 this year.

The Supply Chain donation is earmarked for United Way of Bruce Grey’s backpack program, while the employee contributions go toward various projects in the supported communities.

“The Bruce Power support means that we can do what we need to do because it is so significant in terms of the dollar value, but also in terms of the consistency and dependability for us,” said Francesca Dobbyn, executive director of United Way of Bruce Grey. “We know it’s there and we know we have the ongoing support of Bruce Power in all the projects that we do.”

She said having Bruce Power as a partner is vital to the organization.

“It’s a significant piece of the United Way’s fund-raising overall, as well as the ongoing support we get in the community through Bruce Power workers volunteering at events and contributing that way,” she said. “We’re in regular communication with Bruce Power about everything we’re doing in the community and what the emerging needs are, so it’s tremendous to have that support.”

And finally, Kincardine got two early Christmas presents: Highway 9, east of Kincardine, is now open; and the price of gas is under $1/litre.
