Push For Change hockey challenge raises almost $2,000 for fight against homelessness
The Push For Change hockey challenge to battle homelessness in the area, was a great success, Saturday afternoon at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
Former NHL'ers Greg deVries and Boyd Devereaux assisted the South Bruce OPP, the Kincardine Firefighters and the Kincardine District Secondary School staff and students put on a round-robin hockey tournament won by the KDSS squad.
Joan Chamney of Grey-Bruce YMCA Housing Services division was on hand to drop the puck and start things off.
DeVries and Devereaux not only played in the tournament, but made themselves available for autographs and photographs between periods and after the game.
As a result of the generosity of the Kincardine area citizens, who came out to watch the game or donated to it,
$1,715.50 was raised - 50 per cent will go to the Push for Change Charity fighting homelessness across the country, and 50 per cent will go to Grey-Bruce YMCA Housing Services to support the homeless in the region.
There were no costs incurred in the event as everything needed to make the day happen was donated, including the NHLer’s time, travel and efforts, which means every cent donated will go toward battling homelessness.
The organizers thank everyone who helped make this game such a great success!
