March is Fraud Prevention Month: predictable is preventable
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the South Bruce OPP is asking residents across the detachment area to be careful with unsolicited contacts. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it.
Today's tech-savvy scammers can create very convincing scams which commonly include the use of a well-known organization, company or even a government agency. They want to trick you into sending them money. A good defence against fraud is to verify the calls, E-mails or letters before you ever consider responding. Scams will quickly unravel when you start asking questions.
The South Bruce OPP is asking the public to watch out for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam. With the arrival of income-tax season, a con-artist may call you pretending to work for the CRA. He will sound very convincing, but check with the real Canada Revenue Agency to verify that it actually contacted you before you respond.
March is Fraud Prevention Month which is a good opportunity to raise awareness about fraud, but every day is Fraud Prevention Day. Fraud … recognize it … report it … stop it.
