Walkerton family birthing centre sets new record for babies born in 2016-17
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s family birthing centre, based in the Walkerton hospital, welcomed 447 babies in 2016-17 (April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2017), setting a new record for the number of babies born at the facility.
The number of deliveries continues to rise each year, up from 418 in 2015-2016 and 403 in 2014-2015. The health centre is now one of the highest volume low-risk birthing centres in the province.
“This program is a centre of excellence for obstetrical care in our region,” says health centre president and chief executive officer Paul Rosebush. “We take great pride in the care that we provide patients and families for such an important milestone. Our staff truly makes the difference.”
The family birthing centre features six birthing suites where expectant mothers receive one-on-one nursing care through their labour.
