April is Daffodil Month - join the fight against cancer
The Canadian Cancer Society urges Canadians to join the fight against cancer during Daffodil Month – a crucial fund-raising time for the organization.

Throughout the month of April, the Society’s volunteers will be in stores across Grey and Bruce counties, taking donations and giving out Daffodil pins.

“The daffodil is a symbol of strength and courage," says Emily Bisson, fund-raising specialist with the Society. "It signifies that we will not give up, and will keep fighting until cancer is eradicated.”

Two-in-five Canadians will develop cancer in their lifetime, and it is the leading cause of death in this country.

“It is now more important than ever to support this cause,” says Bisson. “We are seeing an increase in need for our services locally. Every donation made during our April Daffodil campaign will provide support for those fighting the disease, discover new ways of early detection, and find new treatments.”

Here is how you can support Canadians living with cancer this month:

Buy and wear a Daffodil pin throughout April.
Participate in a Society fund-raising event in your community.
Sign up to have your head shaved or donate your ponytail, at www.cancer.ca/heroesforhope

Money raised during Daffodil Month helps the Canadian Cancer Society fund excellent cancer research, provide information and deliver programs and services to prevent cancer, and support people living with cancer and their families and caregivers right here in Grey and Bruce counties, as well as advocate on behalf of Canadians on important health and cancer issues.

“Cancer changes everything,” says Bisson. “By donating to the Society, so can you.”

The Canadian Cancer Society fights cancer by doing everything it can to prevent cancer, save lives and support people living with cancer. For more information about cancer, visit cancer.ca or call the toll-free bilingual Cancer Information Service at 1-888-939-3333.
