Kate Leppington advances to Legion Provincial Finals in public-speaking

Kate Leppington of Ripley has advanced to the Legion Provincial Finals in public-speaking, after winning the Intermediate category at the Area competition, Saturday in Barrie.

The Area combines Legion Zones C, D and E, covering all of southwestern Ontario, including Etobicoke and Woodbridge, and north past Orillia. 

Kate’s speech is about "Mental Health" and she provides hope and optimism as she includes the positive influences by local hockey players and her cousin, Lindsay, who has a therapy dog to help with anxiety.
 

James Speer of Wingham, which is in Zone C along with Kincardine and Ripley, also took first place for the Primary division. Other first-place winners, were Emma Schuster of Port Elgin in the Senior division, and Evan Vandervoort of the Alliston area in the Junior division. 

The top four speakers will compete at the Legion Provincial Finals, Saturday, May 6, in Stratford.
