Hike for Hospice event slated for Mother's Day in Kincardine
Huron Shores Hospice is hosting its inaugural Hike for Hospice, Sunday, May 14, at the Davidson Centre, Kincardine, with registration at Noon, followed by a welcome and warm-up at 1 p.m. and the hike at 1:30 p.m.
This is a family-oriented, non-competitive walk — the first fund-raising event bringing together the whole community to support the enhancement of hospice services in Kincardine.
All funds raised will remain in the local area for the residential hospice project to bring services to Kincardine for end-of-life care for patients and their families. The current focus is a one-bedroom hospice at Tiverton Park Manor, with a price tag of $310,000.
So, join in the hike to celebrate and honour your loved ones. Walk in memory of a loved one. Bring Mom out for this fun family event, or let Mom rest for the afternoon and bring the children out to help.
The event includes ‘Touch the Truck’ with the Kincardine Fire Department, and face-painting for the children. The Kincardine Lions Club will be barbecuing hotdogs and sausages (by donation) immediately following the walk. A free swim, from 3-5 p.m., has been sponsored by Quality Construction Services.
Make this a time to give back to your community. Pledge sheets can be printed off on the Huron Shores Hospice website at:
www.huronshoreshospice.ca or you can pledge on-line through a link on the website to Canada Helps at :
www.canadahelps.org/charities/huron-shores-hospice-hike-for-hospice-kincardine.
The hike is open to all age groups and walking ability. You have a choice to walk on the nearby trails, on the outdoor track, or inside on the Davidson Centre walking track, if the weather doesn’t co-operate. Walk as far or as little as you wish.
A residential hospice in Kincardine will bridge a serious gap in end-of-life care. At present, the only service alternatives available to south Bruce County residents who are dying at home or in long-term care facilities, are hospital care or transfer to the residential hospice far from home.
Huron Shores Hospice is now a registered charity and can issue tax receipts for donations.
In other news, the Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild made a beautiful compassion quilt over the winter, and donated it to Huron Shores Hospice representatives at the April meeting.
