Bluewater school board to celebrate Education Week May 1-5

The Bluewater District School Board is celebrating the history and cultural diversity that has shaped local communities, during Education Week from May 1-5.

This year’s theme is “Ontario150” in honour of the 150th anniversary of Ontario. Many students and staff in Bluewater District will be seizing this opportunity to participate in learning initiatives and activities that recognize the uniqueness of our provincial heritage, while looking forward to the next 150 years.

In addition to this milestone, the board recognizes the importance of looking beyond the past 150 years to acknowledge the hundreds of years of historical and cultural contributions by Indigenous people to what is now known as Ontario.

Examples of school-based recognition will be highlighted throughout Education Week on the board website at www.bwdsb.on.ca and on Twitter, @BluewaterDSB. Students, staff and members of the public are encouraged to use the hashtag, #EdWeekBWDSB, on their social media networks to share their own positive examples demonstrating how their school communities are engaging in heritage-themed learning and celebration.

Education Week is also a time to reflect on the many invaluable contributions to the education system by caring and committed students, staff, trustees, parents, volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders. The board pauses to recognize and thank them for their ongoing efforts to support student achievement and well-being.
