KTTPS raises more than $6,000 at Heroes for Hope shave-off
Things got a bit hairy, Friday afternoon, at Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School.
But it was all for a good cause, as the school raised an incredible
$6,128.45 at its annual Heroes for Hope fund-raising event in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Organized by teacher Sarah Bishop, the event focused on brave students raising money to have their hair cut or their heads shaved, to help pediatric cancer patients.
Hair more than eight inches long is donated and made into wigs for local cancer patients to access free of cost, while funds raised will go toward pediatric cancer research and support services.
Going under the clippers for the cause, were students Trenton Catto, Shareef Faddah, Cole Taylor, Tyler Gilliland, Nolan King, Anthony Heyninck, Isaac Russell, Jackson Scholtz, Coltrane MacDonald, Oliver Gleeson, and William Doran, along with parent Melanie Roppel, and Kincardine and Tiverton firefighters Shane Watson, Mike Cates, Greg Simmons and Mark Stopford.
Students having their braids cut for wigs for kids, were Peyton Gutscher, Lauren Colwell, Savannah Petraitis and Lily O'Handley. Others who donated hair, were Sydnie Petrie, Rabya Usman, Maggie Anderson, Cindy Faddah and Hoda Faddah.
Other students had their hair dyed for the cause, including Maggie Rowe, Parker Rowe, Jayde King, Rylee Fischuk, Zain Bhatti, and Sean Wolsey.
InStyle hairdressers donated their time for the event.
"It is amazing what local youth in this area can do," said Emily Bisson, community fund-raising specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society. "KTTPS has raised more than $10,000 in the past two years, while at the same time teaching their students how important it is to help others in their community. We are so fortunate to have great partnerships like this."
