Southsiders take the Cup in North versus South Challenge Walk
The Southsiders turned the tide this year, winning the North versus South Challenge Walk, Monday night in Victoria Park, Kincardine.

The Northsiders have been chirping quite a bit after winning the event two years in a row, since the walk was resurrected by Kate Mahood-Richards and the Huron Heights Home and School Association.

However, this time, it was the Southsiders' turn to shine, as piper Keith Davidson (right) led the charge down Queen Street, across the bridge, to the park. Davidson, former Kincardine recreation director, was one of the organizers of the original challenge walk back in the 1970s.

When the dust had settled, the South side had 327 people registered, ahead of the North side with only 271.

Last year, the North side had 206 people, over the 188 from the South side.

Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School won the school category, with 84 students signed up, while Ecole Elgin Market had 58, Huron Heights had 48, St. Anthony's had six, and Kincardine District Secondary School had four.

Last year, Huron Heights and KTTPS tied for top spot, with 47 students each.

"We had a fantastic turn-out this year with Keith (Davidson)'s help," said Mahood-Richards. "And thanks to Matt Mahood for bringing the antique fire truck to the event as well!"
