Kincardine man tops leader board at Fish Kincardine Derby
Bill Molnar of Kincardine caught a 17.22-pound lake trout Friday afternoon to top the leader board, with the largest fish at the Fish Kincardine Derby, so far.
The largest salmon is a 14.46-pound Chinook, caught May 20 by Don Wyatt of Walkerton.
Anglers have less than two days to try and reel in the big one before the derby ends Sunday, May 28, at noon, with awards beginning around 2 p.m. at the Bruce Steakhouse. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 27, is Kids' Day.
Sponsored by Canadian Tire, and hosted by the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce, the fish derby began May 19, and ran into some difficult weather conditions right from the start.
Most anglers couldn't even get out on the water the first day and there were no fish weighed-in, said Terry-Ann Smith, chamber executive director. Things have improved substantially since then, with hundreds of fish being weighed-in. New this year, she said, was the weigh station at Inverhuron.
The grand prize for the largest fish, is a $5,000 shopping spree at Kincardine Canadian Tire. The prize for the top salmon and the top trout, is a $1,000 shopping spree each at Lake Huron Rod and Gun. There are also many other daily prizes.
Last year's grand prize winner was Diane Wylds-Molnar of Kincardine, with a 19.96-pound trout.
