KDSS students bring sobering message to school during OSAID Week
It was a sobering message for Kincardine District Secondary School students, with the emphasis on the consequences of drunk driving.
Members of the school's Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) group urged their fellow students to make good decisions, and not drink and drive, particularly on the eve of the Prom weekend.
During OSAID Week, May 15-19, a smashed car, surrounded in caution tape, sat outside the back entrance to the school, as a startling reminder of the effects of impaired driving. The vehicle courtesy of Huron Auto Wreckers.
Tuesday, May 23, the South Bruce OPP brought in several pairs of Impaired Vision Goggles for students to put on and then attempt an obstacle course on three-wheeled bikes.
Staff advisor Dawn MacKay said it was interesting to watch the students try to navigate the course as they ran into things and ran over the pylons on the course.
"All of them felt disoriented while they were driving the bikes," she said. "It was an effective way to get the message across."
