Grey Bruce Gutsy Walk raises almost $30,000 for Crohn's and Colitis Canada
The annual Grey Bruce Gutsy Walk has raised almost $30,000 for Crohn's and Colitis Canada.
Held Sunday morning on the track at Walkerton District Community School, the event drew 80 participants, young and old, to enjoy the beautiful sunshine as they walked the five kilometres.
The opening ceremonies included a welcome by Brockton mayor David Inglis, congratulations from Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, and a word of encouragement from honourary chairperson Karen Grubb who shared her story of being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 12 years ago.
Team "It's All Gone to Shitz" of Ripley raised $17,664.51, including top pledge earner, Harold Maurer of Kincardine.
Logan and Carter Drennan, who are associated with "It's All Gone to Shitz," held an on-line auction through Facebook, with the assistance of their mother. Through these efforts, they raised enough to obtain top pledge earner status (raised more than $1,000). They did this to support their cousin, Emily Lotton of Ripley, who has ulcerative colitis.
Jacob Curran of Ripley asked Santa to bring him $100 at Christmas time because he wanted to donate the money to Crohn's and Colitis Canada. He walked with Team "The Bad Bad Bellies."
Donors can still contribute to the Gutsy Walk on-line at
GutsyWalk.ca or by cheque, until early July.
