30th anniversary Torch Run in Huron County June 13
(HURON COUNTY, ON) - The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch for Special Olympics is celebrating its 30th
Anniversary this year and the Huron County OPP is extending a special invitation to everyone to come and celebrate this significant milestone.
"Come one, come all!" says event co-ordinator Sergeant Russ Nesbitt. "The support we have seen from our local towns and villages has been just phenomenal. This event is so much more than just a run. Knowing our athletes are accepted and included is so important. I'm very proud to be a champion of this amazing event and organization."
Special Olympians, police officers, family members, friends and community supporters from all over Huron County will run, walk, and stroll together, Tuesday, June 13, in an effort to promote awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics Ontario.
The Torch Run is a community- based, province-wide event that sees the "Flame of Hope" carried across Ontario by members of law enforcement agencies throughout the province. Since the first run, which was established in Canada in 1987, more than $35-million has been raised in Ontario.
The Huron County Torch Run starts at 9 a.m. at the Wingham OPP detachment. The run will go through Wingham ending at the south-end mall. Participants will then be transported to Blyth, Clinton and Goderich where they will complete a run/walk/stroll in each of those communities.
After the final leg in Goderich, participants and supporters will take part in the 30th Anniversary celebration barbecue scheduled to take place around Noon at McGee Motors on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich.
Any person or business looking to donate to this wonderful cause, can do so on the day of the event by cash or cheques made payable to "Ontario Special Olympics."
Bus transportation will be provided, free of charge, from Goderich to Wingham. Please arrive at the Goderich OPP detachment, located on Courthouse Square, prior to the 8 a.m. departure time.
