KDSS Relay for Life raises more than $25,000 for cancer society
The second annual Kincardine District Secondary School Relay for Life has raised more than $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. That's a substantial increase over the $16,000 raised last year.
More than 160 students and teachers took part in the event, held Thursday, June 1, at the Davidson Centre track.
Following the opening ceremonies, and a survivors' lap, featuring about 20 people, the students in their colourful teams, complete with mascots, began walking the track.
Entertainment was provided by local musicians Chris Coady and Serena Rutledge.
A luminary ceremony was held at 1 p.m. in the Kincardine Hall at the Davidson Centre, with 85 luminaries lined up around the hall in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer, or in honour of those fighting the battle.
The event ended with closing ceremonies and the final lap at about 3 p.m.
