A surprise visit was thoroughly enjoyed by Doug and Shirley MacDonald when their daughter and granddaughter, Sheena and Alayna Houghton, came home for the weekend.

Happy Birthday wishes to Bonnie Boyle and Viola Bridge celebrating their birthdays in June.

Kyle and Holly Bridge celebrated a family and relative birthday gathering for their son, Gavin, at their home, Sunday. Luckily, it was a nice sunny afternoon to spend outdoors and the rain held off until later.

The Purple Grove Women's Institute program committee met at the home of Marilyn Reid, Thursday night, to put together interesting meetings and outings for the fall and into 2018. In attendance, were president Deanna Scott, past-president Janet Rhody, Maureen Collins, Janet Nixon and Cheryl Bridge.

Sunday, Deanna Scott enjoyed visiting with Art and Betty Helm.

Mary Anne Kukoly visited with Helen and Ray Stanley in Hanover, Monday. Wednesday, Mary Anne visited with Jan and Jud Maillette and family in Waterloo.

St. Andrew's United Church in Ripley held its annual Ham Supper Barbecue, Sunday, at the Ripley Complex. Everyone enjoyed a bountiful meal, with scrumptious desserts under a blue sky. It was great to meet friends and neighbors, old and new, share memories and catch up on coming events. A huge thank you to all the willing workers who prepared, served and provided an excellent barbecue.

The weather of late, has been a bag of surprises - no rain and then flooding, areas hit hard with hail. It all depends on where you live as to what kind of weather you got. It's anybody's guess how things will turn out for farmers waiting to finish planting, and those waiting to get the hay off, do the spraying, etc.
