Huron OPP report skateboarder hit in Goderich; and washrooms vandalized
SKATEBOARDER STRUCK CROSSING THE ROAD
(GODERICH, ON) - A Goderich skateboarder is very fortunate to be at home and out of the hospital, following a crash in the Town of Goderich last night (July 25).
At approximately 7 p.m., the Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and Goderich Fire Department personnel were called to the intersection of Victoria Street North and Newgate Street in response to a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
An off-duty police officer witnessed the crash and provided immediate first aid to the injured female until emergency services providers attended the scene.
The preliminary investigation has determined the female skateboarder was facing westbound on Newgate Street and had waited for traffic to clear. She attempted to cross the four lanes of traffic, but entered the path of a Toyota Echo that was travelling southbound on Victoria Street in the curb lane. The driver of the Echo was unable to avoid the collision and the vehicle struck the skateboarder.
The injured skateboarder, a 16-year-old female of Goderich, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.
The investigation continues.
