Fanshawe College fashion show has Kincardine connection

The seventh annual Wearable Art Fashion Show, "Invincible: Heroes versus Villains," takes place Thursday, March 26, at the London Music Hall.

Organized by the Fashion Merchandising students of Fanshawe College in London, the show has a Kincardine connection.

Ashlee Parsons, a graduate of Kincardine District Secondary School, is part of the college program putting on the show.

Joining her, are Natasha and Vivien Adler, formerly of Kincardine and now living in London, who are modelling in the show. Natasha is in Grade 11, while Vivien is in Grade 9, at Sir Fredrick Banting Secondary where they are honour students. They left Kincardine three years ago.

In her second year at Fanshawe, Ashlee graduates this spring. She plans to travel to Newfoundland in May to start her own business with her own clothing line.

Meanwhile, the fashion show will not only showcase the work of the talented second-year fashion students, but also raise money for "Itsy," a charitable organization that supports the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital in London. In addition to helping the "itsy bitsy" NICU residents, Itsy provides financial relief to families to assist with living expenses incurred while their infants are in the NICU.

The unit is a 42-bed, Level III NICU serving southwestern Ontario. As part of the tertiary care perinatal program, care is provided for sick and at-risk newborns from throughout the southwest, as well as the northern areas around Lake Superior.

The NICU population ranges from extremely pre-term and small newborns (23-24 weeks gestation, 500 grams) to term newborns sick or at-risk for other reasons. The NICU cares for 600-plus newborns each year.

The fashion students hope to raise $7,000 from the fashion show for this unit.

Tickets for the fashion show are $20 each in advance, available at Fanshawe College (519-452-4227); or $25 each at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m.
