Sobeys Kincardine workers ratify their first contract
Workers at Sobeys Kincardine have ratified their first contract.
Three meetings were held Thursday (Aug. 3), at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m., at the TownePlace Suites Marriott Hotel in Kincardine, and the final vote was 94 per cent in favour of the three-year deal.
The contract is for full-time and part-time employees, and management has the option to be part of the union. Workers agreed it is a good contract, providing them with job security.
Chris Napier, owner/operator of Sobeys in Kincardine, is also pleased with the contract. "We're happy that we were able to negotiate a fair deal and the employees have ratified it," he said.
Workers at the store, located just off Highway 21 on Durham Street, Kincardine, voted last fall to join Unifor, Canada's largest union in the private sector.
