Huron OPP report drug-impaired driver, and stunt driver charged
DRUG-IMPAIRED DRIVER FACING NUMEROUS CHARGES
(GODERICH, ON) - The Huron County OPP has charged a 28-year-old driver with nearly two-dozen charges, following a traffic stop that took place Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 15, in the Town of Goderich.
Around 1:10 p.m., a member of the Huron OPP Street Crimes Unit observed a black Ford Fusion parked on Bruce Street East. The investigating officer had suspicions the Fusion was stolen so some enquiries were made that confirmed the rental vehicle was outstanding and was considered stolen.
Just over an hour later, an OPP officer watched as a man got in the Fusion. Within minutes, the vehicle began to travel westbound on Bruce Street toward Cambria Road, and at 2:26 p.m., a Huron OPP officer conducted a traffic stop of the stolen vehicle.
While speaking with the male driver, the investigating officer observed several signs that led the officer to believe he was impaired by a drug. He was placed under arrest and a demand made to the driver for him to be further evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
The driver was then transported to the Huron OPP detachment and the DRE evaluated the driver and formed the expert opinion that he was impaired by a drug.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, prohibited weapons (expandable baton and throwing knives), replica firearms (pellet gun and revolver), and stolen property consisting of cheques and mail.
During the course of the investigation, police also determined the man was a prohibited driver and was failing to comply with conditions of his Probation order and Prohibition Order.
Kyle URGEL, 28, of no fixed address, has been charged with the following offences:
Driving While Impaired by Drug
Driving While Disqualified (two counts)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (six counts)
Possession of Schedule I Substances (Methamphetamine and Cocaine)
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (two counts)
Possession of a Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order (two counts)
Possession of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (two counts)
Fail to Comply with Probation Order (three counts)
Driving While Under Suspension
He remains in custody with a video court appearance scheduled for Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
STUNT DRIVING CHARGE LAID
(GODERICH, ON) - A 23-year-old Goderich man is facing a Stunt Driving charge, following an erratic driving incident that took place in Goderich late last week.
Thursday, Aug. 10, shortly before 10 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Hyundai Genesis travelling southbound on Victoria Street South near the five points, in an erratic manner. The patrol officer watched as the vehicle zig-zagged back and forth between the two lanes preventing the vehicle behind from passing.
A traffic stop was completed and the driver, Cori White, 23, of Goderich was charged with Stunt Driving. He now has a court date scheduled for Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich, Sept. 12. His driver's licence was suspended for the week and his vehicle was impounded.
