Curl for Kids' Sake raises more than $18,000 for Kincardine Big Brothers and Big Sisters
About 100 people turned out for the first Curl for Kids' Sake event, in support of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, Saturday, March 7, at the Kincardine Curling Club.
This replaced the annual Bowl for Kids' Sake which could not be held this year, due to fire last fall at Bruce Bowling Lanes in Kincardine.
Jennifer Hunter, community co-ordinator of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, was excited with the turn-out.
"We decided to leave an hour of space open on the Saturday afternoon and invite the community to come out, have some fun and try curling," she said. "The people of Kincardine are so kind and generous, it's good for us to give something back to the community. We have had a wonderful response."
Several adults took the time to teach the youngsters, including local youth and some Little Brothers and Sisters, how to curl, with terrific results.
DJ Ryan "the Buzz Man" Berry kept the tunes flowing as the teams enjoyed a great day of curling.
Hunter said current sponsorships, pledges and donations, and community partnerships, have raised more than $18,000, with a final total available later this month.
