Fund-raiser yard sale held in support of MacLennan family
The lawn on the east side of the Hawthorne Community Clinic in Kincardine, was awash in valuable items as a fund-raiser yard sale was held Saturday morning, in support of Chris and Mary Ellen MacLennan and their family.
Their four-year-old daughter, Kathryn, was diagnosed with leukemia in May, and Mary Ellen's colleagues and friends at the medical clinic wanted to help out by hosting the yard sale with all proceeds going to help the family.
Chris is self-employed in the construction industry, and Mary Ellen works part-time as a receptionist at the clinic, so they have no health benefits to assist with the financial burden of treatments, medication and trips to London.
Along with the yard sale, there were baked goods for sale, and a lemonade stand run by Hailey Pym, 7, of Kincardine.
Friday, Sept. 22, there will be a benefit dance, “Rainbows for Kathryn,” held at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 each; available at the Ripley Arena, the Ripley Variety, McRobert Fuels in Lucknow, and through friends of the family.
A Go Fund Me page has also been set up, with donations going toward medical and treatment costs over the next two years. If you wish to donate, visit
