Congratulations to all the exhibitors at the Grey-Bruce Holstein Show in Walkerton, Tuesday evening. Serena Lamont was Champion 4-H Showman and there was a great line-up of youngsters, under age 10, showing their calves this year. Show fever is contagious!
The Bruce County Plowing Match and Canadian Plowing Match were held from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, near Walkerton. Folks were there to encourage our local plowmen and women. Youth plowers from this area included Curtis and Noah Lotton. Thanks to the ladies of the Bervie and Purple Grove Women's Institutes who helped out with the pies for the noon meal, Friday. The new Queen of the Furrow is Laura Fullerton. Krista Young will be representing Bruce County at the International Plowing Match (IPM) near Walton later this month. Congratulations and best wishes to all the competitors and our ambassadors at the IPM!
The wedding of Drew and Charlee Armstrong was held Aug. 26 at the farm of Wayne and Debbie Armstrong. Congratulations from all your Purple Grove friends and family!
Sympathy to the family of Kathy Aitken of Bracebridge whose funeral was Aug. 25. Kathy’s lovely smile and friendly nature will be missed by us all. Her husband, Rev. Bruce Aitken, and family, Scott, Desiree and Jade, and Paul and Stephanie, recently visited with his mother, Eletta Aitken, at RVilla, and with friends in the area. While they were here, they took Eletta (age 99) to enjoy the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band.
Spencer, Brandon and Joseph, sons of Heather and Sam Finnie, were home recently. They kept life lively at the Finnie home. They attended the Celebration of Life of Ron Mitchinson who died in January.
Visiting overnight Wednesday with their grandparents, Jim and Fran Farrell, were Danica Farrell of Holstein and Paisley Farrell of Purple Grove. Jim and Fran visited with Derk and Lillian Logtenberg and some of the Logtenberg family, Sunday afternoon.
Ripley-Huron Fall Fair books are out and available throughout the stores in Ripley, Kincardine and Lucknow, so get your exhibits ready. Advance dance tickets are available at Ripley Variety; cost is $10 in advance, and the band is HWY 21.
Congratulations to the Kincardine Agricultural Society directors, volunteers and exhibitors for another great fair. It was a beautiful weekend for fun and making new friends. A great crowd also attended the last Saturday Night Parade of the summer by the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band parade, with more than 60 band members piping down the street.
Congratulations to Wilfred and Dianne Gamble on their 50th wedding anniversary, with a celebration held Saturday night at the Ripley Complex.
Saturday, Aug. 26, Largaret McInnes was joined by her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Opal and Karen Dore and Nancy McInnes, to celebrate her 90th birthday. What a wonderful time with many best wishes bestowed upon Largaret.
Just a reminder to the Purple Grove Women's Institute members, our meeting is Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Purple Grove Community Centre. Guest speaker will be Rachel Butorajac. As always, we extend a warm welcome to anyone wishing to attend and spend sometime getting to know us.
