Work begins on entrance to Davidson Centre, Kincardine
Work has begun on the entrance to the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The project is expected to take six to eight weeks, but there will be access to the Davidson Centre at all times.

For any questions concerning this restricted access, contact recreation director Karen Kieffer at 519-396-3491, Ext. 101.

The tender for this work was awarded to Lavis Contracting Company Ltd., July 5, at a price of $431,343, including the non-refundable portion of HST.

The project includes upgrades to the existing crosswalk to meet accessibility standards, with signals for a full-stop crosswalk; reconstruction of the entrance with new granular and asphalt; minor storm repairs with sub-drain, curb and gutter; defined parking on both sides separated by a median; relocation of the existing Davidson Centre sign; and new streetlights.

The total project cost, including engineering, comes to $453,343, while the budgeted amount was only $325,000, resulting in a budget shortfall of $128,343.

The cost overage will be funded using the savings from the Walsh Street reconstruction project, estimated to be $194,000.
