Fourth annual Garden Harvest Dinner set for Ripley Sept. 14

The Bruce Botanical Food Gardens (BBFG) will be hosting the fourth annual Garden Harvest Dinner, Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre.

This is a community local food dinner and fund-raising auction to benefit the food gardens, and will feature signature dishes highlighting locally-produced ingredients and beef prepared by the Ripley and District Lions Club. Hoity Toity Wines and the Cowbell Brewing Co. will have tastings, along with wood-fired pizza by Grassroots.

The dinner is organized and prepared by a host of volunteers, supported by many generous sponsors, with all proceeds going toward the BBFG. There will be live entertainment by DJ Buzz Berry of Whenever Events and a live and silent auction.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with appetizers served preceding the harvest dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Huron-Kinloss municipal office in Ripley, and Sleepers Bed Gallery in Kincardine.

The BBFG, founded in 2012, is a non-profit organization displaying a diverse collection of sustainable, organic food plants of the rare, endangered and heirloom varieties. As a public learning centre and food-based tourist attraction, if offers a variety of educational programming and events for all ages based on issues surrounding food security and sustainable food production.

The unique varieties of food harvested from the garden provide people with fresh, healthy, organic food options. The gardens are located at 62 Park Street in Ripley.
