Parkinson's Walk raises more than $20,000
The Walk-it for Parkinson's Walk - Port Elgin, Kincardine and area event, drew 45 walkers and raised $20,114 for support services, education, advocacy and research into Parkinson's. The walk also completed 382,457 steps toward the goal of five-million set by the provincial organization.
Held Sunday, Sept. 10, at North Shore Park in Port Elgin, the event began with registration at 1 p.m. and the walk at 2 p.m.
During registration and an hour later, the Kincardine Taoist Tai Chi members put on a demonstration. Tai Chi movements, worked on under the guidance of an accredited instructor, contribute to better balance and posture, increased strength and flexibility, improved circulation, calmness and peace of mind.
The day saw perfect weather with lots of sunny but cool temperatures, as the walk followed the beautiful Lake Huron shoreline. Regular physical activity can help slow the progression of Parkinson's symptoms.
