The pending tax reforms were a popular topic of conversation with Huron-Bruce farmers while Thompson attended the International Plowing Match near Walton last week.
After more than a decade of imposing new costs on small businesses, rural Ontario and farmers through bad policies such as Cap-and-Trade, skyrocketing hydro costs and cancelled gas plants, the premier is content to let the federal Liberals take even more out of Ontarians' pockets, said Thompson.
"It is interesting to note that just a week ago, the premier stood at the International Plowing Match and celebrated the agriculture sector as a crucial part of our economy," she said. "But today, she won't defend an industry that generates $37-billion and provides more than 700,000 jobs? It's shameful. The Liberal premier of Nova Scotia is standing up for Nova Scotian farmers. Why won't the premier of Ontario do the same for Ontario?"
Premiers from across the country of all political stripes, including Nova Scotia, Manitoba and British Columbia, have voiced opposition to the proposed tax reforms, said Thompson, with several meeting with finance minister Bill Morneau to voice their concerns.
"Unfortunately, on this particular concern, the Ontario premier is missing action," she said.
