South Bruce OPP participating in Fall Seatbelt Campaign
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - The OPP Fall Seatbelt Campaign runs Sept. 27 to Oct. 6, and the South Bruce OPP will be using all available officers to participate fully in the campaign.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, any person travelling in a motor vehicle, who is at least 16 years of age, must occupy a seat with a seatbelt. Parents are reminded that passengers under 16 years of age must be properly buckled up in a car seat, booster seat, or seatbelt, whichever is appropriate for their age, height, and weight.
The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)'s website has comprehensive information about properly restraining your child, including proper car seat installation. This information can be found on the ministry's 'Road Safety' page at
www.mto.gov.on.ca.
The penalty for seatbelt infractions includes a fine of $240 and two demerit points, but the consequences can be far worse if you're involved in a collision while not wearing a seatbelt.
During the 10-day Fall Seatbelt Campaign, officers will be conducting enforcement and education that focuses on seatbelt laws. They hope to see all drivers and passengers safely buckled in rather than have to issue tickets for seatbelt violations.
