Ripley students donate to Ronald McDonald House

December 17, 2014

A group of Grades 7-8 students from Ripley-Huron Community School arrived at Kincardine McDonald's Tuesday (Dec. 16) to present almost $1,000 worth of toys for Ronald McDonald House in London.
This is the second year the students in Barb Grubb's class have collected Canadian Tire money to buy toys for children of all ages who are undergoing treatment in London and whose families often stay with them, using the hospitality of Ronald McDonald House.
"Last year, we donated a whole van full of toys," said Grubb. "This year we had enough to purchase $800 worth of toys, and then John Satosek (Kincardine Canadian Tire dealer) donated another shopping cart of toys for a total of about $1,000 worth altogether."
She said the idea began last year as a "Me to We" project.
"We were going to collect the toys and put them into the Ripley Christmas Hamper program," said Grubb, "but we missed the cut-off date for that program. A staff member suggested Ronald McDonald House, so we donated the toys there. And we received such a wonderful response that we decided to do it again this year."
"This is amazing," said Cathy Ravell, general manager at McDonald's in Kincardine. "These young people should be very proud of themselves."
She said the toys will go to children who are sick and undergoing treatment, and will mean a lot to their families who may not have had time to think about Christmas shopping.
