United Way is big winner at Bruce Power inaugural soccer tournament
RCM Technologies won the inaugural Bruce Power Challenger’s Cup charity soccer tournament, held in Kincardine on the weekend. But the real winner was the United Way of Bruce Grey, as the event raised more than $30,000 as part of Bruce Power’s ongoing commitment to the agency.

The tournament featured 12 Bruce Power teams playing finals Saturday to determine the top three which then faced off Sunday against suppliers from across Ontario, including teams from ES Fox, Kinectrics, AMEC Foster Wheeler, SNC-Lavalin, BWXT Canada, ATS Technologies, EMC, and RCM Technologies.

“It was a great weekend of competitive and fun soccer,” said Richard Horrobin, Bruce Power’s vice-president and managing director of Supply Chain. “The camaraderie shown between Bruce Power employees and their partners was wonderful to experience, and we thank these companies for helping us raise funds for such an important organization.”

Francesca Dobbyn, executive director of the United Way of Bruce Grey, was thrilled with the success of the tournament.

“Despite unsettling weather at times, the smiles and laughter shared between the teams shone through the clouds both days,” she said. “It’s always special when you can have a great time while raising thousands of dollars for those who are in need of assistance through one of our member organizations. We thank Bruce Power and all the supplier companies for their continuing support.”
