Watch for cons and scams over the holidays, say OPP
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - The South Bruce OPP is urging residents to be on the look-out for cons and scams following a report from the Municipality of Brockton, Nov. 20. A phone call was received by the "lucky winner" to announce that he had just "won millions" but a MoneyGram was needed to secure the prize. Fortunately, the scam was identified and no money was sent.
Pay close attention to any unsolicited contact - unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it. Whether it's a knock on the door, phone call, letter, fax or E-mail, always verify the contact is legitimate before you ever consider sending money.
This is an especially important time of year to be vigilant - it's hectic when you're scrambling to make holiday preparations so you could be more vulnerable to the smooth-talking con-artist who wants to trick you into giving up your hard-earned money. Remember, it's your money - you work hard to earn it so work hard to protect it.
