Tom Evans (above) of Tiverton has been in Nakuru, Kenya, for over a week and is gearing up for the 64th annual World reversible-plowing competition, slated to begin tomorrow (Dec. 1) and run through to Saturday (Dec. 2).
Thursday was the final day of practice, with a flag-raising and plot draw. Plowing of stubble begins Friday in Plot 37.

Tuesday, Evans was doing some plowing practice and noted it was quite challenging with long, dry stubble - about 12 inches high - trash, wheel ruts and loose soil.
Last week, his first day of practice was Nov. 22.
"It was a beautiful drive out to the field," he said on Facebook. "About 50 minutes on back roads. Everybody waves and smiles or cheers you as you pass by them. Made good progress with equipment - the tractor works well and feels just like mine. Very difficult conditions, but I'm doing a respectable job."
The second day of practice, Nov. 23, he was stubble-plowing and the residents were still picking the straw bales up from the field - all by hand.
Evans advanced to the worlds in Kenya after winning the Canadian reversible-plowing championship in 2016.
