Tom Evans named grassland silver-medal winner at world plowing championships in Kenya
Tom Evans spent more than a week in Nakuru, Kenya, gearing up for the 64th annual world reversible-plowing competition, which ran Friday and Saturday.

And for his hard work, he was named the grassland silver-medal winner - the first Canadian to earn a medal at the worlds since 1976.

"This is unbelievable," Evans said on Facebook. "I did not see this coming."

He placed 13th in reversible plowing of stubble, and second in grassland plowing, to finish eight overall.

The Tiverton plowman won the national reversible-plowing competition in 2016, earning him the right to compete at the worlds this year.

During his plowing practice sessions in Kenya, he said the ground was quite challenging with long, dry stubble - about 12 inches high - trash, wheel ruts and loose soil.

He said the tractor was working well under difficult conditions, "but I'm doing a respectable job."

It was obviously more than respectable. Congratulations, Evans, on earning silver at the world championships.
