Store owner banning Liberal politician speaks to larger issue, says Huron-Bruce MPP

Store owner banning Liberal politician speaks to larger issue, says Huron-Bruce MPP
Wednesday, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson raised attention to a local store closing its doors in the winter for the first time in more than 150 years, specifically due to Liberal policies. As a result, the store owner has decided to ban deputy premier Deb Matthews from using the store when it re-opens in April.

"The Russian Olympic team members weren't the only folks to receive a ban yesterday," said Thompson, in Question Period. "Last night, CTV London reported that the Port Albert General Store is closing this winter for the first time in more than 150 years, a direct result of this government's bad policies, and six employees will be out of work this winter, right before Christmas."

The Port Albert General Store, a local institution built in 1841, is frequented by Matthews during the summer months, said the store owner.

"Deb Matthews if you're watching, you are banned from this store," the store owner told CTV London. "I want you to have to drive to town in either Goderich or Kincardine and be inconvenienced the same way the members of my community are inconvenienced. Your government policies are directly responsible for me making this decision."

Ontario's small businesses employ nearly three-million Ontario workers, said Thompson. Yet these businesses are struggling because of the increased cost of doing business under the Liberals - whether its skyrocketing hydro rates, red tape, Cap-and-Trade, or a rushed minimum-wage policy which the Ontario Progressive Conservatives (PCs) would implement over four years instead of immediately.

"How many other Liberal caucus members have been banned from small businesses throughout the province because of their bad decisions?" Thompson said. "Ontarians are paying more and getting less under premier Kathleen Wynne's Liberals. Only the Ontario PCs have a plan to support small businesses and help families get ahead."
