KDSS teachers defeat students, 11-7, in annual hockey game

The Kincardine District Secondary School teachers took on the students in the annual hockey game, Thursday, Dec. 21, at the Davidson Centre, and took the win, 11-7.

A good crowd watched as the teachers team, coached by Brennan Long and Jamie Brock, skated circles around the students, firing in shot-after-shot.

It helped that the teachers were propped up by such strong hockey players as Bryce McFadden, and Daniel and Noah Bennett. Also playing for the teachers, were Kathie Hackney, Jenna Rees, Justin Howatt, Jim Taylor, Monty Bennett, Andy Ferguson, Paul Heeley, Keith Colley, Dan Ogilvie, Tim Luinstra, and Peter Wolfe, with student goalies John Graham and Rose Pande.

Meanwhile, 36 students signed up to play the game; of those, 17 players were chosen: five girls, five junior boys, five senior boys, and two goalies. Coaches were Chase Meurs, Ryan Thede and Matt Venner.

Playing for the students team, were Edwin Byle, Kennydi Nicholson, Wilson Shipp, Robbie Tibben, Nolan MacKinnon, Kyle Smeltzer, Lily Freiberger, Ethan Vollmer, Darian Kuz, Kyle Hunter, Brett Norman, Colton Howatt, Luke Ellison, Jennelle Smeltzer, Travis Anderson, and goalies Tyler Brousseau and Kody Collins.

Near the end of the game, all the players from both teams took to the ice for some free-for-all fun, before the buzzer sounded and it was time for a group photo.

Friday, Dec. 22, was the annual KDSS Christmas Assembly with lots of singing, dancing and fun. The highlight was a tribute to teacher, guidance counsellor and coach, Peter Wolfe, who is retiring after 30 years as an educator.
