Kincardine students meet lieutenant governor of Ontario
A large contingent of Kincardine students, including those from Ecole Elgin Market and Huron Heights public schools, packed the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, Tuesday morning, to greet the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor.

The students were joined by local dignitaries, media, Bluewater District School Board and municipal staff, and other community members.

Dowdeswell marked her 55th official civic visit by sharing an inspiring hope-filled message that focused on the protection and preservation of Earth’s ecosystems and forests as outlined in United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.

Following her remarks, the students had an opportunity to present the lieutenant governor with a few mementos, including a bouquet made from items found along the Canada-150 Trail, a local food basket, and student artwork depicting “What Canada Means to Me” and a winter scene using techniques practised this year in art class.

Later in the morning, students were bused to the Stoney Island Conservation Area to observe Dowdeswell officially open the trail, with a plaque-unveiling and ribbon-cutting. To symbolize the occasion, students were joined by other outdoor enthusiasts for a cross-country ski and snowshoe hike in the pristine natural surroundings.

Meanwhile, a small group of student representatives had the privilege of meeting dignitaries and other special guests at a luncheon hosted by Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie, in honour of the lieutenant governor's visit, at the municipal administration centre in Kincardine.
