Purple Grove news
Wow – what a change in the weather! It is nice to get rid of some of the snow before we get our next round of winter. Stay safe on the roads, folks! Sure was a challenge driving through that fog Sunday.

And it is so nice to see the snowy owls back in our area.

We hope you have escaped that miserable flu bug that is making the rounds. For those who are house-bound or recovering in the hospital, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope to see you out and about soon.

Marilyn and Don Reid were pleased to be part of the birthday gathering for their great-grandson, Andrew Husk. His parents are Nicole and Michael.

June and Bob Gilchrist and Marilyn and Don Reid visited with friends in Bayfield. They also celebrated Percy Reiner’s birthday.

There was a good representation from our area at Hugh Duncan’s funeral in Waterloo.

Our sympathy is sent to the family of the late Loraine Barry.

Sympathy, as well, to the family of the late Shirley Lockwood.

It was good that the weather was so good for the horticultural society meeting Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed the special speaker from the Pine River Watershed Initiative Network. Congratulations to the new executive.

Mary Anne Kukoly accompanied Diane and Arnold Clifford to London for the first-birthday celebration of their granddaughter, Everleigh Hunter. The little ones were so much fun.

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The January meeting of the Purple Grove Women’s Institute was held at the home of Marilyn Reid. It was our fun meeting and after we got through the serious part of a potluck lunch and the business part of the meeting, the fun began.

In the business part of the meeting, secretary Fran Farrell read a note from the Kincardine Independent with its enclosure; a request from the Bruce County Museum for Family Day activities; a W.I. project about research and education into Lyme Disease.

Mary Anne Kukoly reported on the excellent response from our members for the Ripley Christmas Hamper. Our Roll Call was answered by a poem, a joke, a contest and a scam alert.

Everyone had brought items for the auction and our auctioneer, Joyce Farrell, did her usual wonderful job of getting bids for the items. Lots of fun ensued as members bid (or bid up) for the items. All the money raised was donated to Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey.
