Kinetic Knights have begun building robot for FIRST "Power Up" challenge
The Kinetic Knights (FRC Team 781) robotics team of Kincardine has begun building its robot for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) challenge, "Power Up."

Kick-off was Jan. 6, and since then, the team has been building a competition field, thanks to the donation of lumber from Kincardine's new Rona store, and begun work on the robot.

In "Power Up," the robots are trapped inside a video game and earn points by successfully placing milk crates on scales and balances. They then must climb to meet "The Boss" at the end of the game.

The Kinetic Knights have been busy at the learning centre, designing and building the robot which they plan to name "Richard," after Richard Yun, one of the team's mentors, who died in March, 2017. They have until Feb. 20 to complete the robot and then prepare to take it to district competitions in Oshawa, March 2-4, and London, April 6-8. If they qualify, they will go on to the district championships and then the worlds.
