Lobb announces third annual Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb is pleased to announce the six annual Clinton Minor Baseball Camp and the third annual Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp.
Headlining the baseball camps for the first time, is Willie Wilson who played 19 in Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, and the Chicago Cubs. He was an outfielder known for his speed and ability as an effective lead-off hitter.
Wilson’s career total of 668 stolen bases currently ranks him in 12th place all-time among major leaguers. He was a two-time all-star in 1982 and 1983. He was a World Series Champion in 1985, Gold Glove award recipient in 1980, two-time Silver Slugger award winner in 1980 and 1982; American League (AL) batting champion in 1982, AL stolen base leader 1979, and was inducted into the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame.
Returning for a fourth straight year, is NCAA head baseball coach Mark Brew who is in his 12th season as head coach of the Lee University Flames. He directed his first seven Lee teams to the NAIA College World Series before leading the transition to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference last season. He has been named conference Coach of the Year twice (2008 and 2010) and has been named Region Coach of the Year six times (2008-2013). In 2008, he was named National Coach of the Year.
The Clinton Minor Baseball Camp was founded by Lobb in 2012. The year before, he noticed that the sport was making a comeback in Huron-Bruce and wanted to help foster that growth. Every year, he has been able to secure sponsors to make the camp affordable so all kids have the chance to participate.
Lobb is not a stranger to the game of baseball. He grew up playing the game in Clinton and attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
“I am very excited to announce the return of the Clinton and Kincardine Minor Baseball Camps," said Lobb. "We are happy to have Willie James Wilson headline the camp and welcome Mark Brew back for a fourth straight year. We are fortunate to have support from community organizations and businesses; their continued support keeps the cost of the camp affordable.”
This year’s camp will run July 9-10 at the Clinton Community Ball Park, and July 11-12 at Kincardine's Connaught Park. It is open to boys and girls, ages eight to 18. Individuals can register on-line for the camps at
www.clintonminorbaseballcamp.ca and
www.kincardineminorbaseballcamp.ca. Cost is $60 and space is limited, so register early!
