Dangerous driver apprehended in Clinton
(CLINTON, ON) - A section of Highway 8 in Clinton has been re-opened, following a dangerous driving incident during the early evening hours of Saturday, Feb. 17.
A motor vehicle was observed by members of the Perth County OPP being driven dangerously throughout the county. The driver's speeds reached more than double the posted speed limit, and the driver failed to stop for police.
Several members of the motoring public were impacted by the incredibly dangerous actions of this driver. Spike-belt deployment was required to prevent the driver and motor vehicle from travelling further. The motor vehicle was brought to a safe stop in Clinton by the collaborative efforts of members of the Huron and Perth County OPP. Miraculously, no injuries were sustained in this event.
The male driver was assessed at a local hospital and later released.
52-two-year-old Richard DAFOE of Woolwich Township was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight From Police
- Mischief Over $5000
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possession of Methamphetamine
The accused was held for a bail hearing where he was remanded into custody. He will be held, pending a future court appearance.
