Ice fishermen try their luck along frozen Penetangore River

A half-dozen ice fishermen were trying their luck along the frozen Penetangore River, east of the Huron Terrace Bridge, in Kincardine, Sunday afternoon.

It's probably the last time this winter they will have the opportunity, as warm temperatures and rain moved into the Kincardine area, Monday, and are expected to continue through the week.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning, with heavy rain Monday night, and Tuesday. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

General rainfall amounts of 25 millimetres (mm) are expected Monday night, but further significant rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday will generate rainfall totals in the 50-75 mm range.

This wet, record-mild spell is attributed to a series of low pressure systems moving along a warm front draped across the lower Great Lakes. A cold front will arrive Wednesday, bringing an end to the rain.
