South Bruce OPP officers welcome people to have coffee with a cop
Three members of the South Bruce OPP were at the Tim Hortons, just off Highway 21 in Kincardine, Tuesday around lunch time, welcoming people to have a chat over a cup of coffee.
Joining the detachment commander, inspector Dana Earley, were sergeant Keegan Wilcox, and constable Kevin Martin, community services officer.
“I had a lady come and sit down with me and talk about her concerns,” said Earley. "She wouldn't have come to the OPP office to discuss this.”
“It's a great venue,” said Martin. “We're building relationships, one cup at a time.”
Not only were the officers willing to chat with people, they also carried trays of food and cups of coffee to tables for customers, and talked with the staff.
Coffee with a Cop is a community-based program that provides an opportunity for members of the public to have a conversation with their local police officers in a relaxed setting.
Three more sessions are planned:
- Armstrong's Home Bakery at 644 Campbell Street, Lucknow, Feb. 23, at 12:30 p.m.
- Harley's Pub and Perk at 87 Elora Street, Mildmay, Feb. 27, at 12:30 p.m.
- Back Eddie's at 660 Queen Street South in Paisley, March 1, at 10 a.m.
Earley said she would like to continue the Coffee with the OPP event throughout the year.
