Bruce County purchases land for future expansion of museum
Bruce County warden Paul Eagleson has announced the purchase of land at 254 High Street, Southampton, from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, adding to the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre property portfolio and permitting potential future expansion of the museum.
“The property has strategic importance for the county and we were very pleased to work with the Diocese of Huron and in particular, St. Paul’s Anglican Church warden Doug Goar and member Scott Saunders, to secure these lands,” said Eagleson.
The museum's mandate is to preserve and make available the documentary heritage of Bruce County. A potential expansion would ensure that the collective memory of the county would continue to grow.
“After taking the necessary time to complete our due diligence, the purchase of this land positions the museum to take the next steps in the potential expansion planning process,” said South Bruce Peninsula mayor Janice Jackson, chairperson of the museum.
“The congregation of St. Paul’s Anglican Church supports the county’s vision to potentially expand the programs and services offered by the museum,” said Goar. “This was shown in the support to sell the land to the county.”
