Ripley Atom Wolves tie Essa Eagles in Game 1 of OMHA playoffs
The Ripley Atom Wolves hosted the Essa Eagles in Game 1 of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) playoffs, Saturday afternoon at the Ripley Arena, playing to a 1-1 tie.
In front of a packed arena, the Wolves took a 1-0 lead and held it until the dying seconds of the second period when Essa tied it up.
Following a scoreless third period and a 10-minute overtime, the game ended, 1-1.
Game 2 is in Essa Sunday at 3:30 p.m.; and Game 3 is back at the Ripley Arena, Saturday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m.
The Ripley Atoms played TCDMHA in the quarterfinals. The teams were tied, 3-3, after overtime in Game 1; Ripley won Game 2; TCDMHA won Games 3 and 4; Ripley won Game 5, 4-0; and then the Wolves took Game 6, 3-0, and the series.
They then played Cayuga in the semi-finals and won the series, three games straight, by scores of 2-1, 2-1 and 6-0.
