Huron-Kinloss public works director retiring at end of August

Huron-Kinloss Township's public works director has announced he is retiring at the end of August.

In a letter to township council, to be addressed in committee-of-the-whole tomorrow night (April 4), Hugh Nichol states that after 17 years as the public works superintendent/director of public works for the township, and more than 30 years of working in municipal government, it is time for him to retire.

“I would like to thank council for the support of ideas and approval of recommendations brought forth in my efforts to provide an acceptable level of public works service to the township residents,” states Nichol. “I would also like to thank all my co-workers for welcoming me into their working environment without passing judgement on my Huron County heritage.”

He had a special thank you for chief administrative officer Mary Rose Walden for giving him an opportunity to experience life in a senior management position. “Her patience, guidance and friendship will always be remembered.”

Nichol plans to continue living in Huron-Kinloss and said he would be happy to provide the background history of any decisions made to assist his successor during the period of transition.

He is the third employee to leave Huron-Kinloss this year. Former clerk Sonya Watson resigned, effective Jan. 1, to become chief administrative officer/clerk in Brockton; and deputy clerk/administrative assistant Joanna Malott is retiring later this year.
