Spring snowstorm wreaks havoc in Kincardine area
The calendar may say spring, but it looked more like January as snow and high wind hit the Kincardine area Wednesday.

The snowstorm escalated through the day and by 2 p.m., the South Bruce OPP had closed Highway 21 between Kincardine and Port Elgin due to high wind, blowing snow and pockets of zero visibility.

Police urged those who decided to travel, to keep their vehicle's headlights and tail lights on, and clear of snow. Motorists were urged to keep their speed down – “If you see snow, go slow.”

The public was also reminded that for up-to-date road/weather information, visit: www.brucecounty.on.ca/road-conditions.php or call Bruce County Roads at 1-866 – 266-7569, Option “2”.

The blustery weather also meant school buses were cancelled, including all rural buses for Ecole Elgin Market, Huron Heights, and Kincardine Township-Tiverton public schools, and St. Anthony's School; plus all buses for Kincardine District Secondary School, except 108, 103, 110 and 190.

Ross Young Bus Lines had also cancelled buses for Routes 170, 171, 172, 173, 174, 176 and 114.

Parents were advised to pick up their children at school or make other arrangements.

The Kincardine municipal administrative centre closed early Wednesday afternoon, and the council meeting, slated for 5 p.m., was cancelled.
