Kincardine council dons hockey jerseys in support of Humboldt community
Kincardine council members and staff wore Kincardine Bulldogs hockey jerseys at the council meeting Wednesday night (April 11), in support of the community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
Friday, April 6, Humboldt's junior hockey team, the Broncos, was heading to Nipawin for a playoff game when the team bus and a semi truck carrying a load of peat moss, crashed at an intersection. There were 29 people on the bus, including players and staff. Sixteen people died and 13 were injured.
“We are wearing hockey jerseys in support of all those western Canada families who have suffered a great loss, following this tragic accident in Humboldt, Saskatchewan,” said Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie. “From one hockey town to another.”
She said people across Canada are planning to wear hockey jerseys Thursday (April 12), as a show of support for the community.
“We hope it helps people find that extra strength to cope,” said Eadie. “This accident was an unimaginable tragedy and our hearts are with them.”
